The Clever Rabbit and the Elephants Story

Once upon a time, in a deep, green jungle, there lived a big herd of elephants. Their king, a huge elephant named Chaturdanta, was kind and strong. In the same jungle, all the animals would drink from a big lake in the middle of the forest. But one year, something terrible happened—no rain fell for a long, long time, and the lake dried up completely.

The elephants were thirsty and worried. Chaturdanta said, “We must find water! I’ve heard of a magical lake called Chandrasar in another forest. It never dries up. Let’s go there.” The elephants agreed and began their long journey.

When they finally reached the sparkling blue lake, they were so happy! They splashed and played, spraying water everywhere with their trunks. They drank as much cool water as they could and then wandered into the nearby forest to rest.

But little did they know, the forest around the lake was home to many rabbits. These rabbits lived in cozy burrows in the ground. When the elephants walked around, their big, heavy feet crushed the burrows. Some rabbits were hurt, and others had to flee their homes. The rabbits were scared and sad.

The rabbits gathered to figure out what to do. “We can’t live here anymore,” one rabbit said. “The elephants are too big and don’t even notice us!”

But a clever rabbit named Lambkarna had an idea. “Don’t worry, friends. I have a plan to make the elephants leave. Trust me!”

The next day, Lambkarna climbed up a big rock by the path where the elephants walked to the lake. When the elephant king, Chaturdanta, passed by, Lambkarna called out in a loud voice, “Oh, mighty king of the elephants! Stop!”

The elephant king paused, surprised to see a tiny rabbit speaking so boldly. “Who are you, little one, and why do you block my path?”

“I am the messenger of the great God Moon,” said Lambkarna. “He is very angry with you and your herd for hurting my fellow rabbits and destroying our homes. If you don’t stop, he will curse you!”

The elephant king was startled. “I never meant to harm anyone! Please take me to the God Moon so I can apologize.”

“Meet me by the lake tonight,” said Lambkarna.

That night, under the silver light of the moon, the elephant king met Lambkarna by the lake. The clever rabbit pointed to the water and said, “Look into the lake, and you will see the God Moon.”

The elephant king leaned over and saw the moon’s reflection in the still water. Just then, a soft breeze made ripples in the lake, and the moon’s reflection began to shake.

“Look! The God Moon is very angry with you,” Lambkarna said. “You must leave this place immediately, or he will punish you.”

The elephant king was terrified. “Please tell the God Moon I’m sorry! I promise my herd and I will never return to this lake.”

And with that, the elephants left the forest, never to return.

The rabbits were safe and happy once more. Lambkarna’s cleverness had saved their homes.
